In today's "instant information" world, more and more people are searching the Internet for information and ultimately, great deals on items, cars, clothing and of course, vacations. Vacation Rentals By Owner, better known as VRBO, has become a popular choice for many travelers, but take notice. The money you might save by renting directly from an owner often comes with a catch, and that catch is service!

Vacation Rentals are offered through 2 distinct methods, those managed by professional property management companies and those rented out directly by the owner.

So, “what is the difference?"

Professional property management companies handle all reservations, maintenance issues, housekeeping and all the little things that might occur during a stay in a typical vacation rental. VRBO’s, however, typically do not offer this level of service.

Why does this matter?

Say you've driven all day to arrive at the destination you saved for all year so you and the family can have a nice vacation. Upon arrival, you check in only to find the oven doesn't work. The unit is dirty. The TV is out and your kids cannot watch cartoons. Or the A/C goes out in the middle of the night in July or August. With an owner rental, you are on your own. It is up to you to contact the owner and for the owner to arrange for service. This might be a little difficult after-hours.

And unfortunately, any negative reviews have to be "approved" by the owner with the respective listing. How is that fair for the customer? It's not. Read customer comments about their VRBO experience.
